For EU Importers
Akita sake, wine and craft beer for EU importers
What we supply
MADE IN AKITA is the export brand of Danshiko Lab LLC, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. We supply sake, wine, cider, craft beer and gin from eleven producers in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan, to importers, distributors, retailers and restaurants in the European Union. The catalogue runs to 81 SKUs from seven sake breweries, two wineries, one farm winery and one craft brewery. Stock is held in our own warehouse in Amsterdam, so goods reach EU customers from inside the EU rather than from Japan. We supply trade buyers by the case and private customers by the bottle. We correspond in English and Japanese and reply within three business days. Trade enquiries: trade@danshiko.com.
Why the product data is already EU-ready
Every SKU has been through the following before it reaches you. Allergen declarations are written in English under Annex II of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011: beers declare gluten from barley, wines and cider declare sulphites where sulphur dioxide is used, and sake is rice, rice koji and water, to which no Annex II allergen applies. Alcoholic strength is stated as a single value to one decimal place under Annex XII; where a producer's material gave a range we returned to the published figure and converted it, and two products whose strength we could not verify were withdrawn from the catalogue rather than published with an unverified number. Nutrition and health claims were removed under Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006, which does not permit them on beverages above 1.2% alcohol by volume. Copy was reviewed against alcohol advertising restrictions including the French Loi Evin. The full record is on our EU compliance page.
The eleven producers
Seven sake breweries: Okuda Shuzoten, founded 1673, Daisen City; Naba Shoten, 1871, Tsuchizaki, Akita City; Chitosezakari, 1872, Kazuno City; Kodama Jozo, 1879, Katagami City; Azakura Shuzo, 1886, Yokote City; Sato Shuzoten, 1907, Yashima, Yurihonjo City; and Dainagawa, 1914, Omori, Yokote City. Two wineries: Mutsumi Winery in Katagami City and Winery Konohana in Kazuno City. One farm winery: Toyoshima Farm in Yashima, Yurihonjo City. One craft brewery: Ogresse Quete in Oga City, which bottles in 750 ml wine-format bottles for the European market. All eleven are stocked in our Amsterdam warehouse and can be delivered anywhere in the European Union. Outside our own channel, most of them have no established European distribution at all - which is the gap this catalogue exists to close.
Our own private-brand line
Alongside the producers' own bottlings, MADE IN AKITA develops and releases its own private-brand line: twenty 180 ml products across seven sake breweries, in three tiers - Essential, Premier and Platinum - named with each brewery's founding year. OKD since 1673, NBA since 1871, CTZ since 1872, KDM since 1879, AZK since 1886, SAT since 1907, DNG since 1914. Each tier is filled with a sake selected from that brewery's range and bottled at 180 ml. Kodama Jozo also produces a craft gin using Akita botanicals including white birch sap and kuromoji.
How to open an account
Email trade@danshiko.com with your country, your licence status and the categories you want. We reply within three business days with the catalogue, EU-format label data and pricing. Minimum order quantities are agreed per enquiry. We correspond in English and Japanese. Private customers do not need an account: single bottles can be ordered from our own shop at shop.made-in-akita.com, dispatched from the same Amsterdam warehouse. MADE IN AKITA is the export brand of Danshiko Lab LLC, 2F-C Shibuya Dogenzaka Tokyu Building, 1-10-8 Dogenzaka, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Stock in Europe is held and dispatched by Danshiko Lab B.V., Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Why buy from stock in Amsterdam
We are not a broker passing on someone else's catalogue. We select the producers in Akita Prefecture ourselves, prepare their product data to EU labelling requirements, hold the stock in our own warehouse in Amsterdam and ship from there. For a buyer in the European Union that means no Japanese export paperwork and no customs clearance, because the goods are already in free circulation within the EU. Excise duty on alcohol is separate: it falls due in the country of consumption, under that country's rules. Orders leave Amsterdam by the case for trade buyers and by the bottle for private customers. We also publish only what we could trace to the producer's own material - claims that could not be verified were removed rather than softened, and products whose specification we could not confirm were withdrawn from the catalogue.
